• Forest School Training – April 2019, Hollywood, Wicklow

    Forest training are delighted to offer this training to Wicklow County Childcare Committee Service Providers at a subsidised rate thanks to funding received from Wicklow County Council and the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership fund.

    Two Irish trainers, Ciara Hinksman of Earth Force Education and Lucy Bell of Growing Wild, are delivering this course in association with Circle of Life Training. Both Lucy and Ciara are Forest School practitioners working with children and adults throughout Ireland since 2013 and have been outdoor educators for over ten years. They are part of the Circle of Life Training team delivering OCN Level 3 Certificate Forest School Leader course in Co. Wicklow.

    The curriculum covered will include:

    1. Understand the Forest School approach to learning.
    2. Be able to participate in Forest School experiences.
    3. Understand methods of identification of woodland species.
    4. Understand how Forest School impacts on the woodland environment.
    5. Understand hazards at Forest School.

    When: Two full days: Friday, 5th April & Friday, 12th April, 2019

    Where: The Forest, Hollywood, Co. Wicklow

    Time: 9:00am to 5.00pm

    Cost: €70 (plus booking fee) only for Wicklow CCC members for two full days

    The training involves:

    • 16hrs/Two days training in Wicklow with the option to be accredited by the OCN.

    If you choose to become accredited, there are a few extra requirements:

    • Accreditation: To go on and gain the OCN Level 1 Award in Forest School Ethos and Principles accreditation is by choice. Once participants have completed the 16hrs/two days training, you simply complete the short workbook and write a small amount about what you observe at an actual forest school session with children.
    • Complete a short workbook: To be accredited involves participants completing a practical workbook (time will be allocated for completing this during the course).
    • Time: To observe a Forest School session will require an additional half a day midweek (2.5hrs) to observe us, or another Forest School Leader, working with a local school/Early Year’s group. In total (including the 2 days/16hrs training course) this is a committment of 2.5 days.
    • Cost for accreditation: This has an additional cost of €90 per person for OCN registration and marking to receive an OCN Level 1 Award.
