Please see below important dates and information to note for the week 8th  May – 11th May 2018.

Pobal sector profile survey is still open

We have been informed that over 80% of services in Wicklow have completed the survey, thank you so much for filling it in, we really do appreciate it. If you had trouble submitting your survey, it may be because you have entered your fees with a decimal point e.g. €64.50. Unfortunately the system can only take whole figures so if you round your fees up or down hopefully you will be able to submit it successfully.

    Parents Survey

In January 2017, the Minister for Education and Skills started a process known as Schools Reconfiguration for Diversity.  The Department of Education and Skills wants to find out whether there is demand for a greater choice of primary schools in an area.

The survey asks parents of pre-school children whether the current choice of primary school types in their area meets their needs, or whether they have a preference for a wider choice of school types.

The Department of Education and Skills, through the sixteen Education and Training Boards around the country, have asked local City/County Childcare Committees to assist with the survey of parents of children in preschools in their area.

One area in Wicklow will be chosen for this survey and then Wicklow CCC will be in touch with all the preschools in the area to inform them of what is involved in the process.

We are very aware that this will involve a considerable amount of input from services in areas chosen but it is important that parents are consulted about what type of primary schools they would like to see in their area and the survey will inform this.

    Better Start

Better Start Quality Development service have changed the format of the information sheet for their current criteria. This format clearly outlines the criteria for which an Early Years Service can make a request for quality support from an Early Years Specialist.

Please see below the criteria information sheet and a 10 Step Guide to Completing the Quality Support Request form.

The ten steps document is a useful reference tool for services and also for the CCC when sending a form into Better Start.

It is important to note, when sending in a Quality Request From to Better Start to send this to Better Start Enquiries email address enquiries@betterstart.ie and cc the relevant Coordinator. This way we can ensure efficiency in our responses to Quality Request Forms and follow up if required for additional information.

Changes in data protection from May 25th

As you are all aware there are significant changes taking place in relation to data protection from 25th May.  Wicklow CCC were hoping to organise an information session for providers but we are awaiting on guidance from DCYA regarding any particular issues which may arise for the sector. If and when we receive more information we will let you know.  In the meantime we would advise that you make yourself familiar with the changes please see http://gdprandyou.ie/ as the onus is on the holder of the information to ensure proper procedures are being followed.

Early Childhood Ireland have a series of template policies for GDPR which can now be downloaded from their website. Templates include, among others, a Personal Data Protection Policy, Employee Personal Data Protection Policy, Privacy Notice for Parents, and Data Breach and Retention Policies. A full list of templates is detailed on this page – members can then login to access and download the documents. See their website https://www.earlychildhoodireland.ie/gdpr-template-policies-procedures/
