    Update on the Development of the Affordable Childcare Scheme

    Children First Act 2015

    Under the Children First Act 2015, all relevant services are required to prepare a child safeguarding statement. The Early Years Child Protection Programme has prepared a guide to drafting this statement, which can be downloaded from the following link: https://www.earlychildhoodireland.ie/child-safeguarding-statement-template/

    Tusla have launched an e-learning programme, Introduction to Children First, an interactive course that provides introductory information on the new legal requirements and it recommended that all staff and providers of early years services complete it.

    The programme is based on Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children and the Children First Act 2015.

    Children First Briefing Sessions

    WCCC are running three Briefing Sessions regarding the changes to the Children First Act 2105 on the following dates;

    • Arklow Bay Hotel, Monday 5th February 7.00 pm – 8.30 pm
    • Glenview Hotel, Tuesday 13th February 7.00 – 8.30 pm
    • Baltinglass Parish Centre, Tuesday 27th February 7.00 – 8.30pm

    The Briefing Session will look at the implications of the Act for early years providers and will include information on developing a Child Safeguarding Statement.

    Quality of Education Report

    TRAINING 2018

    Equality, Diversity & Inclusion training

    The next course in Arklow commencing 3rd February is now full.  There are only a few places left in Laragh commencing 10th March . It is highly recommended that 2 people per childcare service take part.  We will be running additional workshops in other venues in Wicklow (see dates and venues on our website), however this training will only be available until June and will no longer run after this time frame. As part of your ECCE contract (in the AIM appendix 2 Level 1) providers must participate in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines. Participants will receive certification and a resource pack upon completion of the training.

    Level 8 Certification – Carlow IT

    Carlow IT are running a new course over 4 days in the Wicklow County Campus – Level 8 Certificate in Management and Governance for Youth and Community Work.  This may be of interest and relevance to Board members of community services.   For further information please see link below.
