    2nd March, National Pyjama Day

    This is the largest one-day fundraising event organised by the early childhood care and education sector in Ireland.     Level 7/8/9 learner fund bursary 2018

    Applications for the level 7/8/9 learner fund bursary open on Monday. An award of €750 is available for those who have graduated with a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education at Level 7/8/9 on the National Framework of Qualifications in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017.

    In order to apply you must:

    • Have a Qualification which is on DCYA Early Years Recognised Qualifications list
    • Have a graduating certificate. If your certificate does not have the full name of the course a transcript will be required to confirm the course was ECCE. For example NUI certificates in Latin state that the holder received a Bachelor of Arts but not what subject it is in.
    • Have been working in a registered Early Years Service prior to beginning their course;
    • Be currently working in a registered Early Years Service;
    • Have submitted a completed application form (along with all relevant documentation) to us no later than 5 pm on Wednesday 14th March 2018.

    Level 7

    Wicklow CCC are again  delighted to be working with Carlow IT on the provision of the Level 7 BA in Applied Childhood Education & Care, which will be available at the Wicklow County Campus, Clermont, Rathnew from September 2018.  The details are being finalised at present , there will be more information in next weeks update.  In the meantime, should you wish to receive information if it becomes available before next Friday please e mail info@wccc.ie


    Better Start AIM Hanen Teacher Talk training programmes

    As part of the AIM programme, specialised training for early years practitioners is being offered. The first training programme is Hanen Teacher Talk, a certified 3 day course delivered by Better Start Early Years Specialists. The first round of training will begin in March and April 2018 in Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Leitrim, Limerick and Wexford and will take place on one Saturday per month. ECCE services in receipt of AIM targeted support (Levels 4-7) will be invited to apply.  Further training courses will be available throughout 2018. More information from Better Start will follow shortly. A notice to this effect is on PIP.


    Diversity, Equality and Inclusion training clarification

    We have had some enquiries on the requirement to do the above training.  We wish to clarify that the information below is what we have available and that is what we have being giving to services, and we have cut and pasted this from the ECCE contract.

    As per Appendix 2 of your ECCE contract (SEE BELOW), WCCC has arranged 17 courses in Wicklow which started in 2017 and will finish in July 2018.

    “APPENDIX 2: General Terms and Conditions governing participation in the Access and Inclusion Model (AIM)

    AIM Level 1 – The Registered Provider will engage with the CCC and participate in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines training.  On completion of the training, the Registered Provider must sign up to a National Inclusion Charter and create their own Early Childhood Care and Education National Inclusion Policy”

    Children First Act 2015 briefings

    The final of our Children First Act 2015 Briefing sessions will be held in Baltinglass next week. The briefing and Q&A will take no more than an hour. We have already run two well attended sessions in Arklow and The Glenview Hotel.  The final session is organised for:-

    Tuesday 27th February in The Parish Centre Baltinglass at 7pm

    Date for your Diary

    Following on from our very successful Childcare Professionals Day in November we are holding a mini Childcare Professionals Day on Saturday 12th of May in The Glenview Hotel 9.30am -1.00pm.  Confirmed sessions includes Yoga for Children and Helping children to think and communicate well using the P4C approach (Philosophy for children).  We are awaiting confirmation on one other session.  More details to follow for further information please contact judy@wccc.ie.

    LINC/AIM information session

    Mary Immaculate College and Wicklow CCC will be holding a joint information session on Tuesday 13 March at 6.30 in The Glenview Hotel. The session will last for approximately 1.5 hours. A LINC tutor will give a presentation on the course and answer any questions you may have.  WCCC will also give an overview of AIM and will answer any queries you may have.  To book a place please contact info@wccc.ie.


    Child protection training

    At the moment we are not running our child protection training for childcare services. The emphasis is on the preparation of child safeguarding statements. Then the trainers will receive an updated programme that takes into account the provisions of the Act. We will keep you updated on when the training will recommence.
