Capital Grants 2018 Information and Reminder
Pre-application briefing notes with important information and dates, in advance of the opening of applications for Early Years and School Age Capital grants in 2018.
January ECCE intake and minimum number exemptions
If you had an intake of children newly eligible for ECCE this month, please ensure that you have the minimum number of children required to run an ECCE room. Don’t forget you must have a minimum of 8 ECCE children per room, per session. Therefore, if you have morning sessions with 22 children but you have an afternoon session with only 5 ECCE children, you must apply for a minimum number exemption for your afternoon session.
You can get an exemption in the following circumstances:
|Exemption Sought Under:||Tick Relevant Box|
|A. Registered providers who have a daily enrolment of at least 8 children but, for good reason, only 3 or more are in the ECCE programme and the remainder of the children are between the ages of 2½ and 6 years;|
|B. Smaller registered providers which are considered appropriate settings for delivery of the ECCE programme, but for good reason, have a daily enrolment of not fewer than 5 ECCE eligible children;|
|C. A service that has an ECCE room that is full but has children eligible for ECCE in a room that is an appropriate setting for the delivery of the ECCE programme but which has a daily enrolment of not fewer than 5 children aged between 2½ and 6 years – subject to the requirement that ECCE staff qualification criteria are met|
This will be checked at your Pobal compliance visit. Please contact your Development Officer if you need to get an exemption.
AIM Inclusive Play resource packs
As you know this week the Minister announced that all ECCE services that have either a LINC graduate or a member of staff who has taken the DEI training we have been running since last year, will receive an inclusive play resource pack.
The DCYA are organising the distribution of the packs but you don’t need to do anything. We will be providing the DCYA details of those who have taken the training with us, and Mary Immaculate College will do the same for LINC graduates.
Please bear in mind that we will only be running the training until the end of June this year and we can only take 16 participants on each course, so make sure you book a course.
If you no longer have a DEI trained staff member because they left or moved to another service, make sure you book another staff member on a course.
If you are a DEI trained staff member and you are now working in a different service, you can let us know at email@example.com. Just tell us where you were working when you did the DEI training and where you are working now.
Mandatory Reporting and Child Safeguarding Statements – New Requirements
Children First National Guidance for the Protection & Welfare of Children has been updated to include these new provisions and contains important information for professionals working with children and organisations providing services to children. Everyone working in an early years service should read and be familiar with the new Guidance document. All early years services will be provided with a copy over the coming weeks. We will be organising information workshops in the near future also, once we have the dates organised we will let you know.
If you have any questions or queries, don’t hesitate to contact us. For more info on preparation for the mandatory report see our website http://bit.ly/2mSqNQ6
Data Protection Regulations – May 2018
Early Years Services handle a wide variety of personal and private data that falls under the remit of data protection. Services will have increased responsibilities under the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR] which come into force in May 2018. WCCC are running a workshop on how to prepare for these changes. For details see http://bit.ly/2rcdGPm
We are still awaiting details of the application process to apply for this bursary which we expect this month. As soon as details are available we will notify services via email.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion training
There are only a few remaining places left on our next upcoming Equality Diversity and Inclusion Training in Arklow commencing 3rd February. It is highly recommended that 2 people per childcare service take part. We will be running additional workshops in other venues in Wicklow (see dates on our website), however this training will only be available until June and will no longer run after this time frame. As part of your ECCE contract (in the AIM appendix 2 Level 1) providers must participate in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines. Participants will receive certification and a resource pack upon completion of the training.
Details of all our planned training events are now up on our website.
To book a place on any of these FREE workshops please complete our online booking form.
