Our 5th Childcare Professional Development Day was held in The Glendalough Hotel on Saturday, 23rd March. We worried about flooding on the approach roads to Glendalough as we expected a record number of attendees and speakers.
Places were limited to 100 and we were lucky that 98 providers managed to attend the day and enjoyed workshops relating to Aistear’s theme of Exploring and Thinking. Sally O’Donnell from The Glen Outdoor Creche in Donegal kicked off the day with an informative presentation on Outdoor Play and had lots of photographs of her unique service and answered the many questions asked. This was followed (after the necessary coffee break!) with Promoting Positive Behaviour by HSE Psychologist, Dr Rosario Power. Rosario was well received and stayed to answer questions and the group reluctantly broke for lunch. The Glendalough Hotel fed us very well and efficiently with a choice of hot lunch and dessert which fortified people for the VEC’s workshops on Numeracy and Literacy.
Feedback on the event was very positive and people were delighted with the choice of speakers and topics. They also were pleased with the change from soup and sandwiches which was seen as a healthier choice with different dietary preferences being catered for.
Following on from that success, we are now in the process of organising our 6th bi-annual Seminar day for Providers and their staff, which will take place in The Glendalough Hotel on 9th November and Judy is already taking names. Again, for catering purposes, places are limited to 100. This is a great team-building day for staff, is certified for Continuing Professional Development purposes, is a good networking day for meeting other childcare providers/staff as well as the learning that takes place in the workshop sessions. It’s a great value day out.
