    Dear Parents & Providers

RTE’s Primetime Investigates series aired a special documentary on Tuesday 28th May entitled A Breach of Trust, which highlighted incidents of poor practice in a number of childcare facilities, including a facility in Co. Wicklow.

The HSE, who hold responsibility for inspecting and regulating quality in the sector, will be investigating these incidents. WCCC cannot comment on the details of the particular cases incident until the HSE has completed its investigation.

Understandably we expect this programme to cause concern among parents and providers.

Wicklow County Childcare Committee is committed to supporting improvements in the quality of childcare in the county and works with childcare providers to offer a range of advice, courses and workshops to support this aim. We also offer advice and information to parents, particularly with regards to the government schemes, such as the ECCE Pre-School Year.

All services must comply with the Childcare Pre-school Services Regulations and are inspected by a team of HSE Pre-school Inspectors. Parents can request to see a copy of the HSE Inspector’s Report for the service their child is enrolled in.

We would also encourage parents take the opportunity to discuss their child’s activities with your childcare provider and if there is an area of particular interest, ask about the service’s policies in this regard.

We are fortunate in Co. Wicklow to have many high quality services, who are dedicated to the highest standards of care and education for the children in their care.

They will be only too happy to discuss any concerns you have with you. We have compiled advice for parents when choosing childcare, click here to read more.

However, if you have more serious concerns, we would encourage you to contact the HSE Childcare Inspector for your area. For West Wicklow, the telephone number for this service is (045) 907841. For the rest of the county is (01) 2822 122 / (01) 2821 594

You will find lots of useful information throughout this website but if you would like any further information, please feel free to contact us on (0404) 64455 or by emailing info@wccc.ie
