• Playworking & Learning event, 22nd & 23rd Feb – Balbriggan, Co. Dublin

Posted on January 25, 2013 by in News Updates

A Challenging Continuing Professional Development event aimed at workers, managers, teachers, development officers and advisors in Childcare, Schools, Playwork, After-Schools, Youthwork and others who work with children, presented by Steve Goode & Marc Armitage.

Marc Armitage and Steve Goode are skilled play consultants, researchers and trainers with many years experience behind them of working in Ireland and around the world with childcare services, schools, youth and play services – both regularly deliver university level programs.

The opportunity to play is crucial in children’s lives. It is through play that children learn social interactions, become healthy, develop skills and have fun.

Children can and do play without encouragement or help but adults in all sorts of sectors can significantly enhance a child’s opportunity to play by creating a physical environment that allows a child to learn and develop … but that is only half the story.

Playworking is a style of working which is more play-led than child-led. The difference can be subtle but the effect it can have on the way that we work with children and young people can be profound. It aims to develop the second half of the story … our knowledge and attitude to play and the way it is provided for.
