    Wicklow Mental Health Association is holding an Information Evening on parenting skills for modern times. The talk will be given by parenting Coach Marian Byrne at the Grand Hotel Wicklow on Wednesday, January 22nd 2014 at 8.00pm and is open to all and free of charge.

    Being a parent in 2014 is in some ways similar to parenting down through the years and in other ways very different. Our parents and grandparents faced financial challenges, had to contend with new technology and of course the complex and tumultuous teenage years when their lovely young child turned into a selfish, rude and risk taking stranger.

    These are still challenges for parents today but there are, however, many more as well. More working parents, single parents, blended families, cyber bullying, pressure for the point’s race, isolation. Less support, less confidence in our parenting, less real communication. To quote George Carlin

    We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

    ‘We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life.  We’ve added years to life but not life to years.

     So what can we, as parents, do to support ourselves and our children regardless of our circumstances?

    The answer is to use the core skills and approaches that are always available to us.

    This evening talk will cover some of the key challenges and Marian will share some practical tips and thoughts for parents to allow them prepare their children for the challenges and success that await them.  It will also offer;

    • 3 ways to connect with your child no matter what age they are
    • 3 ways to help develop their confidence and self esteem
    • 3 coaching tools that can help you feel less stressed and more in control so that you can actually enjoy being a parent and these precious years.

    This event is provided free of charge and all are welcome to attend.
