• Charles Flanagan TD announced as new Minister for Children and Youth Affairs

    Charlie Flanagan New MinisterCharles (known as Charlie) Flanagan TD has been appointed as Minister for Children and Youth Affairs after serving as the chairperson of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party.

    He was first elected as a TD for the Laois-Offaly constituency in 1987. He was re-elected in every election until 2002, when he lost his seat. However, he was re-elected again in 2007 and 2011. He was previously the party’s spokesperson on children from 2010-2011.

    Flanagan is the son of the late Oliver J. Flanagan, who was one of the Dáil’s longest serving members having spent over 40 years as a TD. Flanagan has two daughters with his wife Mary. (Source: Newstalk.ie)
