• NCCA launches updated version of Aistear Toolkit

    The NCCA (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) have updated the Aistear Toolkit to include an Environment Audit. The Audit has been designed to assist Childcare Services to think about and improve the indoor and outdoor learning environment in the context of Aistear.

    The Audit can be used as a first set to introducing Aistear in your childcare service.  As a curriculum framework, Aistear can assist servcies to plan for children’s learning under the themes of Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating, Exploring and Thinking.  Aistear is not intended to replace the current curriculum.

    WCCC would encourage all Childcare Services to complete the Audit which links to Regulation 5 of the Child Care (Pre-school Services) Regulations.

    The Toolkit includes information on the below.

    1. Introducing Aistear
    2. Using the themes
    3. Teaching through play
    4. Supporting interactions
    5. Assessing
    6. Working with parents
    7. The learning environment
    8. Planning and documenting (includes planning templates)
