This is a major positive for early childhood educators in Co. Wicklow and means that we will soon have a pathway from Levels 5 through to 9 on the National Qualifications Framework all delivered within the borders of Co. Wicklow.
Spaces will be limited on the course but I urge anyone eligible to strongly consider applying as the benefits are twofold, namely:
The opportunity to recognise and enhance your skills, knowledge and practice and improve on the delivery of high quality, reflective early childhood education and care for the children in your settings.
The above course qualifies for higher capitation which is set at €75 per week per ECCE child from September 2016. Minister Reilly also recently announced that Higher Capitation would be paid per room rather than per service.
At present there is no subsidy available for the course, which is expected to cost c. €2,200, although personal tax rebates may decrease the cost for an individual.
The financial case for investing in yourself is strong, with a potential increase in income (even allowing for the cost of the course) of between €2k-€6.5k in the first year of higher capitation (based on 11-22 children) and between €4k-€8.5k thereafter.
