Overage & Minimum Exemptions

The expanded ECCE programme commenced in September 2016.

From September 2016, a new model “Supporting Access to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for Children with a Disability” was introduced.  This model of supports includes continuing professional development for early years workers, grants for equipment and alteration for services.  For more info about the AIM programme see link below;

All applications for exemptions for children with special needs must be approved by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs in advance.

Overage Exemption

Applications to Defer entry or to Spread 2 years over 3 programme years can be made to

Current policy requires that any request for an exemption from ECCE eligibility must be supported by a letter
from a medical specialist/ Social Worker (not a GP/PHN) specifically recommending an exemption for the child.

Minimum Exemption

If your service has less than eight children registered for the ECCE programme, per room, your service must complete a minimum exemption form. This form is available from WCCC. Once completed, send to jane@wccc.ie  and we will forward to DCYA.  Please note that if you do have less than eight children and have not received an exemption you will be found to be non compliant.
