The last couple of years has seen a huge amount of effort put in by early years practitioners to attain the new minimum qualifications for the sector (QQI L5); for room leader (QQI L6) and for higher capitation (QQI L7 and above).

With the expansion of early childhood education courses on the Claremont Campus (IT Carlow) in Rathnew and existing courses available from KWETB; learners in Co. Wicklow can now attain qualifications from Level 5 right through to Level 9 through classroom based learning within the county.

We are conscious that it can be difficult to find a space away from home and work life to study for these qualifications. To support this, we have stocked a small library of early years textbooks in the Boardroom of WCCC’s offices on Kilmantin Hill in Wicklow Town.

Students are free to pop in and use these in the afternoons during the week (see details). The books may not be removed from the room but materials may be copied as per a regular library (fair usage applies).

We will run this on a trial basis between now and the year end to gauge its usefulness. We hope it is helpful as we journey collectively towards providing our children with a highly qualified workforce; reflective of the existing high levels of experience; care and enthusiasm established throughout the county.

If you have staff members currently studying for qualifications, please share this information with them.
